The Problem:
Many people struggle to disconnect from daily stress before going to sleep. While Headspace already offers meditation and mindfulness tools, we saw an opportunity to create a dedicated sleep experience that helps users transition from daytime activity into relaxation.
Our goal was to design a feature that:
* Helps users wind down before bed
* Encourages consistent sleep routines
* Provides calming content in one accessible place
The Solution:
We designed Sleep Mood, a toggle feature that transforms the interface into a nighttime-friendly experience.
When Sleep Mood is turned on:
* The app switches to a cooler, darker color palette
* Brightness and sound intensity are reduced
* Content focused on relaxation becomes easier to access
The experience prioritizes calming interactions and simple navigation so users can quickly find the content they need to relax before sleep.
Informative Videos:
I designed the Informative Videos section, which provides short, engaging videos about mindfulness, stress management, and mental well-being.
These videos help users:
* Learn the science behind mindfulness
* Understand ways to manage anxiety and stress
* Build healthier habits that support better sleep
Users can watch videos directly in the app, explore additional content, or save videos to their personal library.
Tips:
I also designed the Tips section, which offers quick, actionable advice for improving focus, reducing stress, and practicing mindfulness.
Each tip expands into a more detailed page that explains the concept and provides simple guidance users can apply in their daily routine.
The goal was to give users small, practical steps they can take to improve their mental wellness.
Quotes:
The Quotes section delivers short daily quotes focused on mindfulness, motivation, and emotional well-being.
Users can browse different categories such as:
* Life
* Work
* Family
* Happiness
* Love
They can also save their favorite quotes to a personal library for later reflection.

The Sleep Mood experience follows a simple flow:
